The Healing Power Within and Food Sensitivities

“It’s not the food that is dangerous. it’s what you think about the food that is”

- Zero Limits by Joe Vitale and Dr Hew Len

There is a strong connection between the digestion of our emotions and the digestion of the food.

For example, if you are always feeling guilty, then subconsciously you will associate a certain food with your feelings of guilt. Let’s say that food is bread. So after a while, your body will start feeling sick every time you eat bread. To your body, bread reflects guilt and the inability to digest it.

Healthy digestion of food and emotions is when you can:

  1. Taste and feel it all - the good and the bad

  2. Break it down - food, emotions, or life experience

  3. Absorb and assimilate - nutrients, lessons, or personal growth

  4. Get rid of, let go, and forgive - everything you no longer need via breath, sweat, urination, sleep, awareness, surrender, and bowel movement.

  5. Naturally feel alive, whole, and content.

  6. Repeat steps 1-5

The above model is inspired by the work of Louise Hay and Abraham Hicks.

Dis-ease is not just in the physical body. Avoiding reactive foods allows healing for a short amount of time, but in the long run, we must learn to surrender our emotions. Surrender and not indulge. E-motions mean energy in motion. Emotions need to be in motion. Instead of resisting heavy emotions, we can relax around it and feel it all. As soon as we feel it, it moves and makes way for lighter emotions like joy, love, inner peace, and calm to come through!

During the private 1:1 holistic counseling sessions with me, I guide my clients to feel the pain, because feeling is healing. There was a time in my life when feeling my emotions meant being weak. I later understood that it was the resistance to my feelings that created so many weaknesses in my body. I used to see the world in black-and-white, and relied heavily on my logical mind to navigate in this world. The logical mind likes to control everything! However, I couldn’t sustain like that for too long. That paradigm was limiting my expression of wholeness and created dis-eases in me such as depression, stress, chronic fatigue syndrome, PMS, menstrual cramp, food sensitivities, acne, hair loss, weight loss, indigestion, lack of motivation, blood sugar imbalance, irritability, bitterness, jealousy, and loneliness.

Fortunately, the dis-eases in my body have been my greatest teacher and healer. I learned that EQ (emotional intelligence quotient) is far more important and fulfilling compared to IQ (Intelligence quotient) alone. So I immersed myself in learning about my emotions via hypnotherapy (MindBody Medicine), emotional freedom technique, reading books by Hay House authors on self-help and personal growth, energy healing, and spirituality.

For over a decade, I have been learning from deep within what my emotions mean and permitting myself to be emotionally vulnerable - personally, and professionally. My body taught me that my healing power is within, not outside of me. By going within, I have started to feel better. I am introducing more foods into my diet, mindfully and lovingly. Every day I am surrendering more and more to the greater power within. I am gentle with myself. I am cultivating courage as I experience emotional pains rooted way back in my childhood and surrendering to the powerful healing (LOVE) within to take care of it. Do you want to be able to do the same? That same healing power is within you too!

Here is a Hawaiian prayer called Ho'oponopono to start healing from within:

I love you. I am sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.
